Dean of Health and Natural Sciences Dr. Shelia Bouie
Congratulations to Dr. Sheila Bouie, dean of health and natural sciences, on being named to the distinguished roster of Memphis Business Journals Women Who Lead in Nursing.
Dr. Bouie was selected by the MBJs editorial team along with 10 other honorees who were chosen for their stellar leadership in various capacities, from directing nursing operations at health care systems to educating the next generation of nurses.
At a high level, Dr. Bouie provides leadership, management, planning, and advocacy for her divisions faculty and programs. She is passionate about working toward her goal of advancing the research and practical applications of addressing social determinants of health within vulnerable and forgotten communities.
A trend she sees in higher education is a shift toward self-promotion at the expense of devaluing the investment of the time and commitment required to complete programming. Bouie believes a more balanced approach is needed in how that phenomenon is addressed. She says that strategies to help meet that demand are redesigning delivery models, remaining responsive to market and industry needs, leveraging technology, and reminding learners of their professional calling.
I see my career achievement through the lens of what I call the human impact factor its not about positions, its about making a positive impact on peoples lives," Bouie said. "Throughout my career, I have strived to help students, colleagues, and partners realize that the value of education goes beyond the classroom.
Congratulations, Dr. Bouie, on your distinguished recognition!
